Neurosurgery

A neurosurgical consultation may be indicated in the presence of conditions such as:

  • cervical, thoracic or lumbar herniated disc;
  • spinal stenosis;
  • spondylolisthesis;
  • degenerative spine disorders;
  • neck pain, low back pain and sciatica;
  • pain radiating to the arms or legs;
  • tingling or altered sensation;
  • reduced strength.

During the consultation the specialist takes the patient's clinical history, assesses the symptoms and reviews any diagnostic tests already carried out, such as MRI, CT scans or X-rays.

The aim is to reach an accurate clinical diagnosis and identify the most appropriate treatment pathway.

For this reason, it is helpful to bring the reports and images of any tests already performed.

It is important to stress that seeing a neurosurgeon does not necessarily mean having to undergo surgery.

Depending on the clinical assessment, further tests, conservative treatment, minimally invasive procedures or, only when truly necessary, surgical treatment may be recommended.

Our neurosurgeon can follow the patient all the way through to surgery, if needed, and during the follow-up stages.
